Georgetown organizes its university-wide AI initiative around a faculty steering committee and three input groups

A nine-member faculty steering committee will lead the university-wide effort, supported by input groups for research, teaching and pedagogy, and administration and operations.

Confirmed facts

Georgetown announced a university-wide artificial intelligence initiative on September 3 and described its organization on September 18. A nine-member faculty Steering Committee chaired by Andrew Sobanet will lead outreach and development of university principles.

Three input groups will support the committee: Research, Teaching and Pedagogy, and Administration/Operations. The committee will report monthly to the Faculty Senate as it works toward endorsement of Georgetown University Principles for AI Use in December 2026. Practical guidance remains targeted for spring 2027.
